GULF COAST DOBERMAN RESCUE NEEDS YOUR HELP!

In Louisiana, we're having news coverage everyday about animal shelters getting so many pets brought in as a result of the BP Oil Spill. Gulf Coast Doberman Rescue has also seen a huge increase in requests for assistance, dobes in shelters and dobes found abandoned on the streets. While hundreds of small dogs from shelters are getting transported up north and to other parts of the country, not many big dogs are getting that second chance. We are trying to absorb as many Dobermans as we can but finances and the lack of foster homes has us tapped out. We need foster homes, other rescues to take a dog or two, transport assistance and the funds to pay for vetting and boarding. As we creep up on the 5 year anniversary of Hurricane Katrina and the devastating effects the storm had on our beloved breed. We find it incredibly ironic that they are once again being hit by a man made disaster - just as devastating to them as the hurricane and levy breaches. Please considering making a donation today!

Help us help them.

We are so pleased to announce that our own SPLASH represented Gulf Coast Doberman Rescue and the doberman breed in the Louisiana Kennel Club Dog show at the Pontchartrain Center in Kenner this past weekend.

In 2009, GCDR rescued 60 Dobermans. Without help from people like YOU, we could not have saved
and rehabilitated that many. We hope you will watch our video by clicking on the image below. See what
a difference your contribution makes for the dogs in our care. This video is to say THANK YOU, from the
dogs you have helped, and helped save.

For those of you on facebook the video can be viewed from our Wall page

Hey buddy, can you spare a dime?

This is Thor. This precious baby was surrendered for euthanasia when he suddenly became paralyzed in his back legs. He was only 4 months old. The vet got him to us as it was believed he was suffering from Wobblers Disease - which unfortunately runs in the Doberman line.

We are presently trying to raise money to get Thor the expensive diagnostics that he needs to confirm or rule out Wobblers.

Please click on our donate button above to make a donation to help us help Thor. Click on his image above to read more on wobblers or click here to read more about Thor.

Update on Joe:

He is still with us in his permanent foster home. We have just started him on Adequin injections for his hip and he appears to be walking better in the first few days after his first injection. We're so excited for him. It's hard to tell if his inactivity is due to the heart or the hips (probably both), but we told our Vet we wanted to do anything that will make him happier and feeling better.

"Old dogs, like old shoes, are comfortable.
They might be a bit out of shape and a little worn around the edges, but they fit well."

Old dogs are the grandparents of the dog world. They are sweet, experienced, and not too demanding. They are happy just to curl up next to you and snooze away the day.
